Product Description

White Turmeric is a unique and aromatic member of the ginger family, known for its creamy-white flesh, camphor-like aroma, and earthy, mildly bitter taste. Unlike the more commonly known orange turmeric, white turmeric is prized in traditional medicine and culinary use, particularly in Southeast Asian and Indian cuisines. The rhizomes can be used fresh, dried, or powdered.

Perfect for home gardeners, herbal enthusiasts, and natural health lovers, White Turmeric is easy to grow in warm climates or indoors in pots. Its lush tropical foliage and beautiful pale pink blooms also make it a stunning ornamental addition to your garden.

How to Grow White Turmeric

When to Plant

  • Best Time: Spring to early summer, once frost has passed

  • Climate: Prefers warm, humid conditions – ideal for tropical and subtropical zones, or indoors in cooler areas

How to Plant

  1. Location: Choose a spot with partial to full sun and well-draining, rich soil.

  2. Soil Prep: Enrich soil with compost or aged manure.

  3. Planting Depth: Place rhizomes 5–7 cm deep with the buds (eyes) facing up.

  4. Spacing: Space 20–30 cm apart in rows about 40 cm apart.

Growing Tips

  • Watering: Keep soil moist but not soggy. Avoid waterlogging.

  • Fertilising: Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during the growing season.

  • Mulching: Mulch well to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

  • Pests: Generally pest-resistant but watch for snails or root rot in poorly drained soil.

Harvesting

  • Time to Maturity: 8–10 months

  • Harvest once leaves begin to yellow and die back. Gently lift rhizomes, wash, and dry before storage or use.
