Pumpkin Golden Nugget Seeds - Cucurbita maxima
Golden Nugget is a compact, bush-type pumpkin variety originally developed in the USA to replace sweet potatoes in colder climates. Perfect for small gardens and container growing, this variety produces small, round pumpkins with a 12 cm diameter, weighing between 600-900g. The bright orange skin is tough, while the dense, sweet orange flesh offers excellent flavor and stores well. Each plant yields 5 to 8 fruits, with a harvest time of 75-95 days.
Golden Nugget Squash was the winner of the 1966 All-American Selections (AAS) award, recognizing new crops that show exceptional performance in garden trials.
Growing Instructions:
- Sow seeds outdoors after the last frost has passed in your area. Lightly cover the seeds with soil, planting 2-3 seeds together in groups.
- For larger pumpkins, space plants at least 3 meters apart.
- To start earlier, sow indoors 2-3 weeks before the planned transplant date. Use Jiffy pots to avoid disturbing the roots when transplanting. Ensure the pots are moist during transplanting and sow 2 seeds per pot without thinning.
- Seeds germinate best at 22°C in 7-10 days.
- Water plants generously for optimal growth.
Pumpkins are ready to harvest when the stem turns dark green and begins to wither. Before the first autumn frost, cut the stem with a knife, leaving 7-10 cm of stem attached to the pumpkin.
