Onion - Amposta Purple Seeds (Allium cepa)
A classic Spanish heirloom, Amposta Purple produces medium-sized, round bulbs with attractive red skins and dense, purple-tinged white flesh. Its flavour is mild and sweet, making it ideal for fresh salads, cooking, or roasting. This variety is also known for its excellent storage qualities and consistent performance.
Day-length & Climate Suitability This is an intermediate day-length onion, requiring 12–14 hours of daylight for proper bulb formation. It grows well in temperate to warm climates and is suited for mid to late season planting, depending on your region.
How to Grow:
Sowing Time: Late summer to early autumn or late winter to spring, depending on your climate.
Position: Full sun in well-drained, fertile soil with good organic content.
Spacing: Sow or transplant seedlings 10–15cm apart in rows 25–30cm apart.
Depth: Sow seeds 5–10mm deep.
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, especially during bulb development. Avoid waterlogging.
Harvest: When the tops begin to yellow and fall over. Cure the bulbs in a dry, airy location for 2–3 weeks before storing.
