Gourd - Birdhouse Mix Seeds
Lagenaria siceraria
This fast-growing climbing vine features striking white flowers and produces bottle-shaped fruit up to 30 cm long and wide. Harvest the young, light-green gourds as a zucchini substitute, or leave them to dry on the vine, where they harden and form hollow interiors. Perfect for crafting birdhouses or creating unique decorations, this variety is also known as Bottle Gourd, Hard Shell Gourd, and Calabash.
How to Grow:
- Sowing: Directly sow seeds 20 mm deep, spacing 200 cm apart in rows. Germination occurs in 7–14 days at 24–26°C.
- Care: Grow in full sun with well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. Water deeply when soil is dry 5 cm below the surface. Use a trellis or allow vines to sprawl, providing at least 2 square meters per plant.
- Harvest: Ready in 150–180 days. Harvest young fruit for cooking or mature gourds for craft and decorative use. Cure dried gourds in a well-ventilated, shaded space.
Perfect for: Crafting, birdhouses, culinary use, and ornamental displays.
