Tanacetum parthenium (Syn. Chrysanthemum parthenium)
Feverfew is a short-lived perennial that grows up to 60 cm, featuring charming single white daisy-like flowers. It is a popular choice for ornamental gardens, adding a touch of elegance to borders, garden beds, or containers. This versatile plant is easy to grow and can also be used in cut flower arrangements, making it a favorite among gardeners.
How to Grow:
- Sowing: Start seeds in trays with a quality seed-raising mix, sowing them 1 mm deep. Germination occurs in 10–14 days at a soil temperature of 20–22°C. Once seedlings develop true leaves and are 5–10 cm tall, transplant them to the garden, spacing plants 30 cm apart. In cool climates, start seeds indoors 6 weeks before the last frost.
- Sunlight & Soil: Feverfew thrives in full sun or part shade, requiring at least 3 hours of sunlight daily. Plant in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter, such as compost or aged manure, for optimal growth.
- Watering & Care: Water when the soil is dry 5 cm below the surface, avoiding overwatering to prevent fungal diseases. Tip prune young plants to encourage bushy growth and deadhead flowers regularly to stimulate continuous blooming. Apply a slow-release or liquid fertiliser if needed, especially for container-grown plants.
Flowering Time:
Feverfew begins to flower approximately 100–110 days after sowing. Its delicate blooms add beauty to gardens throughout the season, while regular pruning helps maintain strong growth.
Ideal Uses:
Perfect for borders, garden beds, and containers, Feverfew is also excellent for fresh floral arrangements. With its striking white blooms, it enhances both outdoor and indoor spaces effortlessly.
