Asparagus Seeds – Grow Your Own Perennial Delight!
Asparagus is a hardy perennial vegetable that thrives in most climates, offering a long-lasting harvest of flavorful spears every spring. Ideal for sunny or partially shaded gardens, asparagus prefers well-drained, organic-rich soil. Sow seeds 10mm deep and 30cm apart, spacing rows 110cm apart. Seeds germinate in 14-21 days at a soil temperature of 23-27°C. You can start seedlings indoors 6 weeks before the last frost and transplant them once the frost risk has passed.
With proper care, asparagus plants mature in approximately 3 years, producing tender spears for up to 20 years. During the first year, avoid harvesting to allow plants to establish. From the third year, enjoy harvesting 15cm spears for 4-6 weeks in spring. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, fertilize if needed, and protect plants during winter with mulch.
Asparagus is perfect for fresh eating and adds gourmet flavor to many dishes. Grow your own and savor the unmatched taste of freshly harvested asparagus!
