Strawberry - Alpine Seeds (Fragaria vesca)
Perennial | Grows to 15cm | Small to Medium Fruit
Also known as Wild Strawberry or Woodland Strawberry, this compact perennial produces small to medium-sized, aromatic red berries with exceptional flavour. Growing to just 15cm tall, it's a charming addition to borders, garden beds, rockeries, containers, window boxes, and hanging baskets.
Alpine strawberries are not only delicious but also ornamental, with lush green foliage that adds beauty to any planting space.
Growing Information:
- Sowing: Sow seeds indoors in late winter to early spring or directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. Press seeds gently into the surface of moist seed-raising mix—do not cover, as they require light to germinate.
- Germination: 14–28 days at 18–22°C. Be patient, as strawberries can be slow to germinate.
- Transplanting: Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle, spacing plants 20–30cm apart in full sun or partial shade.
- Care: Keep soil moist but not waterlogged. Apply mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Harvest: Fruit can be harvested from summer through autumn in their second year, with light picking possible in the first season.
